01 — The Challenge
What was getting in the way.
A 40-year reputation, no outbound motion, and a sales team waiting for referrals that were arriving later every year.
Referral pipeline had thinned as procurement moved online and long-standing buyers retired. The sales team was excellent in the room — and had nothing to fill the room with.
Selling into plants means reaching three different people with three different anxieties: procurement wants lead times and price stability, engineering wants tolerances and certifications, and plant operations wants a supplier who will not stop the line. One generic message reached none of them.
02 — The Approach
How we tackled it, step by step.
- 01
Segment the buying committee
Three tracks, three messages — built from win/loss interviews and the questions that come up in every real sales call.
- 02
Proof-led messaging
Tolerances, certifications, lead times and capacity came first. Specificity is what makes an industrial prospect reply.
- 03
A multi-channel cadence
Email, LinkedIn and phone in one sequence, timed so touchpoints reinforce rather than stack — and every reply is answered by a human.
- 04
A qualification gate
Needs, authority, fit and timeline checked before anything lands on the calendar, so sales time went to conversations that could close.
03 — The Results
What changed after launch.
- 0154 qualified meetings per month by week 12
- 02Positive reply rate of 27% — four times the industry benchmark
- 03Average deal cycle shortened by 18 days with earlier engineering involvement
- 044.1× return on campaign spend across the first two quarters
- 05Sales team moved from referral dependence to a forecastable pipeline
We used to describe our pipeline as hopeful. Now it is a number with names attached, and the team plans around it.
